Leon Goretzka has not yet sat down to negotiate a contract with Bayern Munich, but would be willing to hold talks with the club.
The German midfielder has been a regular since moving from Schalke to Bayern in 2018 and has around 18 months to complete his existing contract.
It was seen 38 times in last season’s triple winning campaign and was used ten times in all competitions in 2020-21.
No Bayern player has found the ball more often than Goretzka in the Bundesliga this season (10). 47 per game) and only Javi Martinez has more interceptions (3. 03 per game compared to 2. 76).
Bayern have tried to bind their teammate David Alaba to a new deal. The chaotic saga has been played publicly for the past few weeks while Thiago Alcantata recently moved to Liverpool when he was only on one year contract.
But Goretzka, who had previously spent five seasons with his Bundesliga club Schalke, is open to talks about new conditions.
« So far there have been no discussions with me, » he told reporters at a press conference before the Champions League clash with Salzburg on Wednesday.
« I’m still under contract for a year and a half so there isn’t much pressure.
« But if Brazzo [Sports Director Hasan Salihamidzic] or Hansi [Flick] approach me in the next few weeks, I won’t refuse to speak to them. «
Goretzka started all four games of the German Nations League this year and played an hour of the 6-0 defeat against Spain last week.
It was Germany’s worst defeat since losing to Austria in a friendly match in 1931. This has led to questions being asked of long-time boss Joachim Low.
The German Football Association announced this week that it would be short of time before assessing his future, and Goretzka can understand the excitement about the defeat.
« When you lose such a big game, it’s normal in our business to be criticized, » he said. « I didn’t wake up feeling good the next morning either.
« For me personally it was about processing the loss, taking some time and then concentrating on the challenges at Bayern again. «
