Proteas fast bowler Shabnim Ismail scored a miserable 3:10 to help the Sydney Thunder secure their spot in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) final by defeating Hobart Hurricanes.

Ismail’s spell was hindering the hurricanes’ efforts to get going, and they’d post a paltry 115 for 9 of their 20 overs.

The Thunder finished the chase at a gallop and reached the finals series, which begins later that week.

The 19 point balls sent down by the Proteas Pacer are a new record for a bowler from the Sydney Thunder.

Ismail brings much-needed experience to a young Thunder cast and she’s happy to be carrying her share of the weight for the team cause in a franchise setup as well.

« This season has been really challenging … for the team have a lot of people mentioned why we have such a young team?

« But I think the pipeline we have and the answers that are coming through just show what kind of character and depth we have. ”

Ismail was pleased that her plans to push the hurricanes into the background early on had paid off.

« We talked about being ruthless in the first six games, » she said. « I think we really did that today. We put her on the rear foot, which brought us to the front seat. « .

« We have a great batting team and a great bowling cast. It’s only for us to go out there, believe in ourselves, and perform those skills as best we can. « .

« We’d like to keep the momentum on our side … we want to do our best. ”

Ismail is one of a series of Proteas competing in the WBBL and has so far taken 12 wickets in the competition, with the savings rate being less than six runs per over.

Other Proteas who do well in the tournament are Marizanne Kapp (Sydney Sixers), Däne van Niekerk (Sydney Sixers), Mignon du Preez (Melbourne Stars), Laura Wolvaardt (Adelaide Strikers), Lizelle Lee (Melbourne Stars) and Chloe Tryon (Hobart Hurricanes).

The Sydney Thunder hits Thursday the 26th. November, in the second WBBL semi-final on the Brisbane Heat, while the Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers battle for another place in the grand final on Wednesday.
