The week’s after hours are likely to live on as a masterpiece for years to come. It’s a beautiful and breathtaking sound journey accompanied by some of the best music videos we’ve seen in years. Abel « The Weeknd » Tesfaye created a character for this album that encompasses all of the work he has done in his career. Even so, the Recording Academy failed to recognize his genius and berated him in every category for the next year’s ceremony.
The 2021 GRAMMY Awards nominations were announced, and surprisingly, The Weeknd’s name was nowhere to be found. His team submitted After Hours as well as « Blinding Lights, » « In Your Eyes, » and a few other songs for review, but none of them passed the Recording Academy’s Test of Excellence.
People were outraged on social media, wondering how they could keep any of The Weeknd’s career-defining works from any accolades, and his peers also agree with the unfortunate reality.
Much like the rest of us, Cudi can’t believe the artist wasn’t nominated at all. After forty weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with « Blinding Lights » and one of the best-selling albums of the year, millions around the world are also confused.
Do you think The Weeknd deserved more love from the Academy for the 2021 GRAMMY Awards?
