TORONTO – Rogers Sportsnet parts with veteran Toronto Blue Jays radio station Mike Wilner.
The broadcaster announced the split on Friday in its Twitter feed. A reason for the decision was not given.
Wilner, the Blue Jays’ first Toronto-born play-by-play broadcaster, became the full-time radio announcer alongside Ben Wagner ahead of the 2019 Major League baseball season. He also named most of the games in 2018 after longtime announcer Jerry Howarth resigned.
Before he came full-time to the broadcasting booth, he worked as a backup announcer and from 2002 he moderated the shows before and after the game « Blue Jays Talk ».
Wilmer said on a social media post that « his heart is broken » but added that he is grateful to be given the chance to « live an absolute dream ». «
