Sydney commuters are warned of significant train delays after a truck hits the road wiring on Monday. Buses are expected to replace trains on Tuesday tomorrow.

Passengers traveling on the & Illawarra Line and the South Coast Line of the T4 Eastern Suburbs have been warned to allow plenty of extra travel time due to the repairs.

A Sydney Trains spokesman said Monday afternoon that a truck bumped over road wiring and fell into the rail corridor near Penshurst station.

« This came into contact with part of the Sydney Trains overhead line and caused significant electrical damage, » the spokesman said.

« Buses from 10 am will replace trains between Hurstville and Sutherland. Tonight at 30 o’clock and possibly tomorrow morning when major repairs are being made to the overhead line. « 

Trains are still going both ways, but alternating to use a section of the route through Penshurst, and travel times are longer than usual.

Shuttle trains also run between Sutherland and Waterfall and between Sutherland and Cronulla. Buses complement the train service between Hurstville and Sutherland.
