8 correction officers charged in connection with the assault and death of Seremaia Naidole Momo, a serving prisoner in 2019, have been released on bail by Suva Magistrates Court.
The 10 officers charged Joji Raqamate, Isei Rakaso, Pita Raikoso, Josefa Boletakibureta, Waisea Sadranu, Josefa Satini, Lemeki Koroi, Ledua Tikoigau, Nemani Vasuvulagi and Apisai Naqamu Tikoigau have left the country.
Their allegations consist of bodily harm., Acts that involve serious harm and complicity in someone else’s suicide.
It is believed that these officers assaulted the prisoner and committed suicide on February 20, 2019 at the Naboro Minimum Corrections Center.
The case was brought to the Colonel Suva court and will be called on April 6th.
