If Team New Zealand successfully defends the America’s Cup, won in Bermuda four years ago, it will have a selfless Englishman with an Italian-sounding surname and a sophisticated math brain.

This week will be the one of Peter Burling-led crew on a boat called Te Rehutai – which means “sea spray” in Maori – begin their best-of-13 fight for the 36th America’s Cup against the Italian crew of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.

Dan Bernasconi Hailing from the tiny village of Ashow, Warwickshire, headed the Team New Zealand (TNZ) design group, which created a boat that many watchers believe is the best all-round package in the new AC75 super-fast foil monohull Class.
