AFL: Will Patrick Dangerfield be on the sidelines for this violent blow against Crow defender Jake Kelly?

Geelong Cats superstar Patrick Dangerfield has to wait nervously from the Match Review Officer on Saturday afternoon after an « ugly » incident with Adelaide Crows defender Jake Kelly.

The Crows were early in their second term gone when Kelly tried to pass the Sherrin on to a teammate.

Dangerfield stormed in from the side and made a late strike after Kelly dumped the ball. A tough head fight left the 26-year-old immobile on the turf.

Kelly was escorted by coaches as a chorus of boos echoed around the Adelaide Oval, presumably pointing to the Geelong employee.

Unfortunately, Adelaide already had its medical submarine activated, and Mitch Hinge replaced Luke Brown at the start of the competition.

The bump was clearly unintentional, but if Dangerfield was found guilty of fouling and missed a game, it would exclude him from competing for the Brownlow Medal.

Hawthorn legend Jason Dunstall said on Fox Footy: « He must be in trouble, right? Because he decided to bump.

» We have to protect his head. I don’t think he is had to contact as much as he did. «

The great Nick Riewoldt of St. Kilda replied, » If you have decided to lose all rights, we have been told. Despite the fact that there is no malice or intent to get him up … that is irrelevant. «

Former Collingwood star Tony Shaw told 3AW, » I think Dangerfield sees a couple of weeks despite his good record. «

Sam Landsberger of The Herald Sun tweeted, » The MRO matrix suggests that Patrick Dangerfield would likely win two games if charged. Fascinating case … purely coincidental Head fight with a nasty consequence. «

Fox Sports reporter Tom Morris told Fox Footy, » This is sloppy, sociable and effective. It will be two weeks. «

Dangerfield is an eight-time All-Australian and former Brownlow medalist, who has scored 300 goals since his AFL debut in 2008.

Geelong outnumbered Adelaide Oval in the first half and the Crows took an early lead.

Veteran Adelaide Taylor Walker scored in the first half four hits to amaze last year’s finalists.

With the hosts 38 points ahead at halftime, a big surprise is at stake in the first round.
