India’s only single shooter to hold an Olympic gold medal, Abinav Bendra, was named Thursday an ambassador for the 16th Airtel Delhi Half Marathon event scheduled for November 29.
Bendra won the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
“Today, the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon Race encouraged individuals, young and old, to adopt a healthy lifestyle, run for a cause and empower women to progress to the best of themselves,” said Bendra, a member of Team Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Padma recipient Buchan Award.

The 38-year-old Bendra has won seven Commonwealth Games medals, three Asian Games and one World Championship medal of his career, as well as the highest Olympic honors.
Some of the world’s best runners, including Ethiopian reigning champions Andamlak Peleho and Tshai Jimicho, will participate in the annual event, one of the first global sporting events hosted by India during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the global and Indian elite contestants will be at the starting line at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here, they will be joined by amateurs from all over the world via the exclusive Airtel Delhi Half Marathon Mobile app.
