Former NSW representative James Roberts will play for his fifth Premier League side after signing a two-year contract with West Tiger.

Roberts is teaming up with the Tamil Tigers after being released early from his contract in South Sydney on humanitarian grounds earlier this month.

The 27-year-old, who is blisteringly fast, had spent two spells at Rabbitohs, while also playing for Brisbane, Gold Coast and Penrith during his tumultuous NRL career.

Michael Maguire, Tigers coach, said the club signed Roberts because he believed he could regain the look he saw participating in the Blues 2018 State of Origin Championship. .

« James is clearly an exceptional footballer who will add a lot to our team and I’m very happy to see him continue his rugby league career with West Tigers, » Maguire said in a statement.. .

« I’ve worked closely with James before and I know he has a good team around him to help get back to the player we know he can be.

Roberts said the work the Tigers did with Aboriginal communities was among the reasons he signed with the club.

“I really like the work West Tigers are doing in creating Aboriginal Trails, which is something I’m really excited about,” he said.

He scored 74 attempts in 149 first-division matches and represented the Aboriginal All-Stars along with three matches in Origin.

Roberts was named Dally M Center of the Year in 2015 during his final season at Titans.
