Peasants protest in Delhi: Amit Shah was informed of clashes that broke out in different parts of Delhi today
More paramilitary forces are likely to be stationed in Delhi after peasant protests escalated to clashes in parts of the capital today and many demonstrators did Red Fort entered.
Union Interior Minister Amit Shah met with senior security and police officers today to discuss and review security. Interior Minister Ajay Bhalla and Delhi Police Commissioner SN Srivastava were present at the high-level meeting.
According to sources, Amit Shah was informed of the clashes that broke out after thousands of peasants broke barricades at the borders and deviated from agreed routes and reached the heart of the city.
As the nation celebrated Republic Day that morning, farmers who protested outside Delhi’s borders for nearly two months struck long before the time allotted for their tractor rally in the capital Police barriers down.
Despite a heavy police presence and tear gas, the farmers penetrated Delhi and reached the important ITO intersection, which is practically the gateway to the VIP zone in the heart of Delhi. There were clashes between farmers and local police just outside the police headquarters in Delhi.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control as the farmers drove their tractors into the famous Red Fort.
Protesting farmers climbed on top of the City walls and tried to hoist yellow flags of Sikh religious significance.
Farmers are protesting against three key laws which they say will deplete their income, take away their guaranteed minimum prices for crops and make them for exploitation by large ones Leave company open. Farmers protested today in several other cities in solidarity with their comrades in northern India.
Farmers were accused of violating the rules of the tractor rally by starting early and on a different route. The government had opposed the rally in the Supreme Court, saying it was a « national embarrassment » at a time when the country was celebrating Republic Day.
