World news – Api Koroisau injury: Penrith Panther’s hooker with a broken wrist for six weeks

0

Penrith will be without star hooker Api Koroisau for the next six weeks after surgery on a broken wrist.

Koroisau sustained the injury in the Panthers’ first win over North Queensland. Scans showed the extent of the break during the week.

The 28-year-old was originally named ninth for Penrith’s clash against the Bulldogs on Saturday, although Mitch Kenny has now been drafted into the day’s squad.

It is a big blow to Ivan Cleary’s side given the combinations Koroisau has made with halves Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai since joining Penrith before the 2020 season.

Kenny’s addition is the only change in the team who defeated the Cowboys 24-0 in Round 1.

Koroisau’s wrist also finished a flawless run on the club’s injury front – the Fijian international is the only member of the Panther’s first class who is currently unavailable.

They made a change for the Bulldogs: Brad Deitz came out of the 17 and Jeremy Marshall-King was named 14.

While the Panthers come into play as hot favorites, h Canterbury coach Trent Barrett often thinks that Sydney’s wild weather can compensate for their first win of the year.
