AS Monaco will host Olympique de Marseille at Stade Louis II in round 21 of the French Ligue 1.

Monaco has in finally gained consistency recently and won 4 of his last 5 games while one game ended in a draw. Thanks to this streak, Monaco are now in 4th place with 36 points, a solid 39 goals scored and 29 conceded goals and a place in the Champions League is very close to them. During this 5-game series Monaco have scored 14 goals and conceded 6 goals. Monaco played against Montpellier last weekend and they were decent with 49% possession, 5 shots on goal, 6 corners, 3 big chances and 71% correct passes. Monaco led 0-3 in the 61st minute, but the defense then lost focus and they conceded 2 goals, but Monaco still won this game 2-3. That loss of focus could have been very bad for Monaco, especially against a better team, but luckily they all had three points here. Volland is playing very well and has scored 10 goals for Monaco so far. Ben Yedder added 9 goals and 4 assists. Fabregas and Martins are currently the only 2 injured players for Monaco. Monaco is doing well at the moment and I can see that they will reach the Champions League place this season.

After Marseille were contenders for the title there for a while, they got into bad shape and they are with 32 points, only 26 goals scored and 19 goals conceded dropped to 6th place. Marseille’s defense is solid but their offense is not delivering enough this season. Marseille have lost their last three games in a row, including the one against Lens last weekend. Marseille had 45% possession, 1 shot on goal, 3 corners, 0 big chances and 79% correct passes in this game. Marseille created a few good chances but nothing is good enough to score and Marseille lost that game 1-0. Thauvin has so far scored 6 goals and added 7 assists for Marseille while Benedetto has added 4 goals. Amavai and Kamara are injured, while Rongier and Gueye are still in question. Marseille are far from their best form and they are not competitive at all right now but you never know what will happen in these derby games.

Monaco have only lost 1 game so far this season and they are in much better shape than Marseille and Monaco is indeed the favorite here. The trends are on Marseille’s side, but that doesn’t mean anything. I’m taking Monaco and goals here because I think we’ll see a lot.
