Indian officers selected as astronauts to put the Gaganyaan into orbit completed their year-long training in the Russian city of Zvyozdny Gorodok, near Moscow.

« We met in the evening Indian gaganauts who had completed their training at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. We also discussed the future bilateral space projects with the (Indian) ambassador, « said Rogozin on his telegram channel, as quoted by the Russian news agency Sputnik.

The contract on the training of Indian officers was signed in June 2019 between the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Russian launch service provider Glavcosmos. The four Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots include a group captain and three Wing Commanders among the IAF sources.

Training began on February 10, 2020, but has been temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. </ Previously, the ISRO officials had said that after training in Russia, these astronauts will now receive module-specific training in India. They will be trained in crew and service modules developed by ISRO, learn to operate it, bypass it and run simulations.

Earlier this month, Union Minister for Atomic Energy and Space, Jitendra Singh, told Gaganyaan – ISRO’s program is to send people into space.

In a statement placed on the Rajya Sabha’s table in response to a question, the minister said that the aim of the program was to demonstrate the ability to put people aboard an Indian launch vehicle into low earth orbit (LEO) and bring them safely back to earth.

« ISRO has extensive experience in technology areas related to launch vehicle, spacecraft management and ground infrastructure etc. and has taken steps to human evaluation of existing systems to ensure occupant safety India prides itself on the fact that many Indian scientists do this.  » significant work in collaboration with international institutions, « he added.
