Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar called his own country for allowing Virat Kohli to miss the remaining three test matches in the Australia-India series to attend the birth of his first child while another player who has not yet met his newborn daughter is asked to serve as a net bowler.

Gavaskar, the record breaking batsman who missed the birth of his son Rohan while touring New Zealand in 1976, went on the offensive in a column for Sports Star after India’s defeat in the first Test in Adelaide.

He asked why Kohli had left while the fast bowler Thangarasu Natarajan was separated from his family.

Natarajan’s daughter was born playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, which took place in the United Arab Emirates from September to November due to COVID bans in India.

He was named at India’s Touring Party for Australia and traveled straight to Sydney from the T20 tournament. After making an impressive impression in the T20 Series 2-1 win, Gavaskar said Natarajan had been asked to stay for the Test series.

« But not as part of the team, but as a net bowler, » wrote Gavaskar. « Imagine. A match winner, albeit in a different format, is asked to be a net bowler. So he won’t return home until after the series ends in the third week of January and then see his daughter for the first time. And there is the captain who, after the first test, returns to give birth to his first child.

« The reason Kohli differs from Natarajan is because the former has the power of advertisers, the freedom to set rules in the BCCI, a sleek BCCI administrator, a social media and media troll army that owns him suck up for access. The latter has a Yorker, ”wrote author Arnab Ray.

“Disagree with Gavaskar. Nobody is forcing Natarajan to roll into the nets. He realizes that it’s a stepping stone for him. Kohli deciding to return is a personal choice. Cricket is his job, part of life, not all of his life. If that makes him unable to play, safely fire him, ”replied columnist Kartikeya Tanna.

« Gavaskar could have criticized Kohli for his lackluster captain, arbitrary selection decisions, clashes with Rohit Sharma, and previous clashes with Anil Kumble – so many things. But he decided to make a personal and malicious remark, ”wrote Kunal Singh.

I have to go with Mr.. . Gavaskar in this case, double standards in the open air for everyone to see. If Natarajan’s role in the test series is only to be a net bowler, there really is no point in staying with him in Australia if he has a newborn daughter he has not yet met.

Gavaskar also targeted the lack of security star crank that Ravi Ashwin endured during his testing career despite his top notch home and away production.

Ashwin took 4-55 and 1-16 in the first Test to bring his career to 370 Test wickets with an average of 25.

« For too long Ashwin has suffered not from his bowling ability, which only the Churlish will doubt, but from his openness and opinion at meetings where most of the others just nod, even if they disagree « said Gavaskar wrote.

“Any other country would welcome a bowler who has more than 350 test wickets and not to forget four test match centuries. However, if Ashwin doesn’t take many wickets in one game, he invariably fails the next. But that doesn’t happen to established batsmen. Even if they fail in a game, they get another chance and another and another, but for Ashwin the rules seem different. ”

KL Rahul, R. Ashwin, T.. Natarajan. Are South Indian players deliberately discriminated against by Indian cricket management? Extremely sad if true! Sunil Gavaskar was very brave to bring the problem to light.
