The boy was transported by road to Nepean Hospital in the far west of Sydney in critical condition and was later confirmed dead.

Peter Van Praagh, director of ambulance operations in New South Wales, said paramedics did their best to save the boy.

« As the weather begins to get warm, it’s a tragic and timely reminder to be careful when approaching the water, because in the blink of an eye everything can change, ».

‘Nobody intends for these tragedies to happen, but this is the thing about accidents – they happen in a second – but the impact can last a lifetime.

‘Anyone who has experienced a fear of drowning or near drowning knows that it is extremely painful for everyone involved, and nothing more than loved ones.

‘These kinds of jobs have a huge impact on all the emergency services involved, but not more than the family, and our hearts are exploding..
