Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti said Alex Iwobi was eliminated from the Premier League matchday’s squad against West Ham United on Friday because of an injury problem and suffered in training.

Iwobi has been an integral part of the Toffees lineup since November and started the last eight games of all competitions.

Aside from the versatility he’s shown on Carlo Ancelotti’s team, the Super Eagles midfielder’s presence in the starting XI has helped Everton lose just one game in their last seven league games.

In Iwobi’s absence, Ancelotti met with Tom Davies, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Gylfi Sigurdsson in midfield, while Richarlison and Bernard attack Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

According to Everton’s Twitter handle, the Italian manager confirmed the severity of the injury but took no chances.

« Iwobi had a bit of a problem during training, we didn’t want to take the risk, » said Ancelotti.

Iwobi has contributed two assists and two goals in 17 games for Everton in all competitions in this campaign so far.

Arthur Masuaku of Congo DR is another African star who missed Friday’s encounter at Goodison Park as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

West Ham, however, has Sebastien Haller from Ivory Coast and Said Benrahma from Algeria in their attack for the match.
