Washington – President-elect Biden will appoint Jake Sullivan as national security adviser to the White House, according to two sources close to transition.
Sullivan advised mr. Biden in domestic politics, but has a comprehensive foreign policy background. He served as Mr.. . Biden’s National Security Advisor during President Barack Obama’s second term was Head of Policy Planning and Deputy Chief of Staff to Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State.
He was also one of the small groups of U. . S.. . Officials who secretly met with Iranian officials in 2013 to initiate diplomatic contact that eventually led to the landmark nuclear deal.
The president-elect will announce nominations for his cabinet on Tuesday, Biden’s senior adviser Symone Sanders told Face the Nation on Sunday.
« I can’t tell you how many or who right now, but I can tell you the president-elect is starting to assemble his cabinet and the American people will have their first look at it on Tuesday, » she said.
Mr. . Biden is also expected to appoint Tony Blinken, a longtime diplomat and member of his Inner Circle, as Secretary of State, and Linda Thomas-Greenfield has been selected as U.. N. . ambassador.
