Billy Brownless spent Christmas Day with his kids, ex-wife, and their new partner – his former best buddy Garry Lyon – five years after the relationship destroyed the duo’s friendship.

The former footballers switched from friends to foes in 2016 after it was revealed that Lyon had started a relationship with Brownless ’18 -year-old wife Nicky.

The marriages of both men ended before Nicky and Lyon announced they were dating, but Brownless still felt betrayed for previously telling him they were « just good friends ». .

After five years of bad blood, Brownless and Lyon appeared to have reconciled in early 2020 when Brownless said they were in a « good place ». .

Photos shared on Christmas Day reinforced that sentiment, and the mixed family spent the holidays together.

Brownless posed next to Nicky and four children Ruby, Lucy, Max and Oscar in Geelong on Christmas Day.

Lyon was also featured in some of the lucky snaps, showing that the men seemed to really have buried the hatchet – years after he left the Footy Show when the scandal broke out.

Brownless, 53, addressed the issue with AFL greats Sam Newman and Don Scott on an episode of the couple’s « You Can’t Be Serious » podcast in September.

« You know I’m going to ask you this – people want to know how you and Garry Lyon are doing, » Newman said at the end of the podcast.

« By the time you’re obviously going through all the different emotions, » Brownless replied. ‘ »Why me? » and a little hate.

‘But now mate, it’s been four or five years, I stopped by and everyone is in a good place to be honest. Garry and Nicky are – that’s fine – and the kids are.

‘That was the other big problem. Young Maxy was about 10 years old, Oscar was about 14 years old, the girls [Lucy and Ruby] were 16, 17 years old. ‘

Brownless admitted despite not fully regaining the friendship they once had with Lyon – and said the couple could be partners at some point as before.

When asked how long it had been before Brownless broke up, Brownless said two years was too short, but five years could be more accurate.

‘There are no problems, we’re in a good room, he’s in a good room, Nicky is, the kids are and me too. But that took time. It did, ”said Brownless.
