Two members of the England tour group in South Africa have returned « unconfirmed positive tests » for COVID-19, the cricket of England and Wales, Board said on Sunday as the first one-day international match due to a virus outbreak at the hotel , in which both teams stay overnight, has been canceled.
The ECB did not publish any names or say whether the two members were players or officials.
The two positive tests came after an additional round of testing on players and officials, triggered by news that two employees at the Cape Town hotel used by both teams for the series had tested positive for COVID-19.
The players and management are now self-isolating in their rooms until the medical teams provide further advice, the ECB said.
The rest of the tour is now in doubt after the first of three ODIs were postponed from Friday after a South African player tested positive for COVID-19.
The also unnamed South African is the third South African player to test positive during the England tour.
The news that the two hotel employees had tested positive initially led to a delay in the start of the game on Sunday in the nearby town of Paarl.
The ECB and Cricket South Africa said in a joint statement that the medical advice was to cancel the game.
« A decision on the remaining games in the series will be made once the results of the tests have been independently confirmed by medical experts, » the two cricket panels said.
« We regret that we cannot play in today’s ODI, but the wellbeing of the players and the support staff is our main concern. While we wait for the results of further testing, the medical advice from both teams has been that this game shouldn’t do that. « To take place, » said Ashley Giles, English Men’s Cricket Manager.

Two of the South African players who tested positive on the tour returned their positive tests ahead of the three-game Twenty20 series in which England won 3-0.
The teams should play three ODIs but it is uncertain whether they will continue now.
