Cricket Australia is set to investigate Sydney Sixers for an administrative error that featured fast-paced teenage bowler Hayley Silver-Holmes on the team sheet to play against Melbourne Renegades despite not being on the 15-strong roster.
Silver-Holmes suffered a foot injury in the past two weeks when substitute Alisha Bates took her place in the 15-man squad. The 17-year-old recovered ahead of Saturday’s game but her return to the squad was yet to be approved by the WBBL’s technical committee. She was named in the XI but couldn’t beat when the Sixers started 166/4 in their 20 overs.
Sixers only found out about the apparent violation of the rules after the game had started, which is why Silver-Holmes did not step on the field in the second innings of the game. This left the Sixers short of a bowling head when the Renegades, led by Lizelle Lees 79, chased the target with five balls.
