Haas F1 driver Romain Grosjean has released a terrifying new vision of the Grand Prix crash in Bahrain that nearly killed him three days ago.

The French star took to Instagram to share the vision after leaving Bahrain Defense Force Hospital where he was recovering from burns to his hands.

The video that you can see above shows him trying to escape the fiery inferno that collided with safety barriers at 220 km / h shortly after the race started.

In the caption, he praises the excellent work of both the fireman and the doctor who “went into the fire” to get him to safety.

« Check out the firefighter’s professionalism and try to keep the fire in the car away from me.

« I told him he was a hero, he went into the fire as much as possible to save me. ”

Grosjean described the moment he appeared above the flame in the video as « the moment he realized he would live » and the seconds before as « the moment he met death ». .

“I’m pulling my body out of the chassis. Yes, it burned me and it was painful, but that is nothing compared to the relief I felt as soon as I got up.

« I remember every second and life will never be the same again, but I’m sure it’s for the best. « .

« I have met death and this is the worst feeling I have ever had. But I live and from now on I will enjoy every second of life and every little win much better. ”

The Haas driver released a number of updates from their recovery process, all of which share the same gratitude traits.

The Frenchman attributed his survival to a « combination of circumstances that were going in the right direction » after spending 28 seconds in the flame, adding, « I’m not complaining. It wasn’t my time. ”

Grosjean, who described his second degree burns on both hands as « superficial, » said he was fully conscious throughout the ordeal.

This weekend, Haas’ Brazilian reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi is following in Grosjean’s footsteps for his F1 debut. The 24-year-old is the grandson of double world champion Emerson Fittipaldi.

Grosjean wants to take part in the final Formula 1 race of the season in Abu Dhabi in less than two weeks. It will most likely be the last race of his career so he wants to go out on his own terms.
