A raging bushfire has broken out near El Caballo Resort in Northam, endangering lives and homes in the area, and triggered a call from authorities for residents to act immediately to survive.

An emergency alert applies to persons in the area bounded by Oyster Road and Fernie Road to the east, Inkpen Road to the south, Chedaring Road to the west, and Linley Valley Road to the north.

The bush fire started shortly before Jan.. 30 p.m. near the junction of Great Eastern Highway and Inkpen Road and is currently burning towards Wundowie, a town of about 1,352 people.

The fire comes as more than 100 firefighters and flight crews fight a runaway fire in Red Gully, Gingin Shire, in which people were asked to take immediate action to survive.

An emergency warning applies to people north of Dandaragan-West Road, south of Marri Heights Road, east of Brand Highway and west of Sapper Road in the Shire of Gingin.

The fire was first reported shortly after 9 a.m.. 30 p.m. at the intersection of Mogumber Road West and Brand Highway in Red Gully and is currently moving west.

The Brand Highway from Gingin-Brook Road to Dandaragan-West Road and Mogumber West Road remains closed. Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.
