Alabama took a 21-0 lead and from that point on everything was fatal. There might have been a chance to hang out with Bama early on, but a seemingly remodeled third down conversion wasn’t, followed by a failed fourth down run (QB always sneaks up on 4. and inches, kids) and good. . . Whatever LSU’s slim hope of causing a stir was gone early.

LSU took everything to work the miracle and things did not go right. LSU failed to get this early score to keep up with Alabama and Alabama. . . and you know.

To honor the tigers, they didn’t give up immediately. Kayshon Boutte made a big win by dropping the ball at the one-yard line, but Jontre Kirklin astutely picked up the ball to recover a yard and score a goal. Ty Davis-Price followed up the next possession with a 54-yard run for a score, the kind of run he threatened to break year-round.

The LSU actually had a somewhat manageable gap of 28 to 14. A minute and fifteen seconds later, Bama had pushed the lead back to 21. LSU went three ands twice, while Bama scored ten more points, including a touchdown in the last minute of the half.

There it was, LSU was halfway down 45-14, mainly because Bama scored a goal in all seven possessions of the first half.

The second half? Well, you decided to play it, but that’s about all you can say about it.

Bama essentially ran the clock for the next 30 minutes while LSU was unable to move the ball in the third quarter. He went out three and two times, followed by another short drive that ended with a field gate.

LSU managed to make long, time-consuming journeys on their next two possessions, going 115 meters in 25 games, but only had three points to show but graciously burned a nine minute music box.

Nobody looked particularly terrible, but nobody really looked that great. Bama got her empty revenge on an LSU team playing the string even though they didn’t lie down, which is nice to see.

This happened when the country’s number 1 plays against a mediocre team at the end of the year. You get hit, but it doesn’t really mean anything. It’s hard to be pissed off when you lose to a team that is way better than you.

If anything, LSU showed some spirit by not just running and hiding. They made at least a quarter and a half of the game out of it, and that with recognizing Bama by 21 points. But it got very ugly very quickly as all LSU fans were looking for other entertainment options.
