The Australian Olympic Committee has announced its plan to win hosting rights for the 2032 Games and the cities Queensland will face.

Australia’s Olympic boss has declared Brisbane’s chances of hosting the 2032 Games « very good » when the committee announced it had restarted its bid.

The campaign to bring the big sporting event to the Sunshine State is based on Queensland’s handling of the health crisis, its ability to host sporting events during the pandemic, and using the Games as an opportunity to restart the state’s economy.

John Coates, president of the Australian Olympic Committee, said four or five other competing offers would face Brisbane but insisted his offer was well placed.

The comments come after Mr Coates met with Queensland Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk on Monday morning to put the offer back on the agenda after a pause during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Reports from China said the cities of Chengdu and Chongqing joined forces to submit a joint bid, but both Mr. Coates and Ms. Palaszczuk denied this claim.

« We haven’t seen an official expression of interest, but we respect all competitors, » said the AOC president.

« There is Jakarta, there may be offers from India, the Netherlands and Germany. We respect them all, but we only focus on our own merits. ”

Mr Coates said he traveled to Tokyo to meet with the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, and recently appointed Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

On this trip, Scott Morrison hosted a meeting with Mr. Bach and Mr. Coates where he confirmed that the federal government is « fully committed to hosting the Games in 2032 ».

Ms. Palaszczuk said she would speak to the Australian Prime Minister in the national cabinet on Friday about the need for ongoing funds to put the pitch together.

The Queensland Prime Minister said that the Sunshine State’s hosting of sporting events by 2020 amid the extraordinary complications of the coronavirus had proven it was the right option for the Olympics.

« With our strong health response, we practically became the sports capital of Australia during the COVID pandemic, » said Ms. Palaszczuk.
