New facilities at Wallsend, Stockton and Salamander Bay include cricket nets and a cricket pitch, funded by the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Cricket Legacy Fund, Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund, local clubs and councils.

NSW ICC T20 World Cup Legacy Fund provides up to $ 6 million to cricket clubs and councils to help grow cricket participation in NSW and provide an enduring legacy of T20 World Cups for women and men guarantee.

Acting Sports Secretary Geoff Lee said the projects are great examples of how the NSW ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Cricket Legacy Fund is benefiting grassroots cricket across the state.

« We have given more than $ 4 million to clubs and councils to support 133 projects across NSW in the first two rounds of the fund, and we pride ourselves on the positive impact we have on our communities across the board State to see, ”said Lee said.

“These projects will benefit all levels of cricket in Hunter, from girls and boys picking up a bat and ball for the first time to the elite players in the area. ”

Taylor Martin, member of the NSW Legislative Council, said these facilities would help keep cricket going strong in the Hunter.

“These facilities will guarantee the region’s heritage as a breeding ground for some of the best cricketers in the state, and allow local players to continue dreaming of wearing the baggy green or baggy blue. ”

Lee Germon, Chief Executive Officer of Cricket NSW, said these new facilities would help foster the love of cricket and increase participation in the wider community.

« We sincerely thank everyone involved in making these important projects a reality, » said Germon.

“These facilities are often not possible without a partnership approach. We are pleased to have carried out this project with the NSW ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Legacy Fund, Cricket Australia through the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund and the cricket community. ”

Michelle Enright, acting CEO of the ICC T20 World Championship, is thrilled that the new facilities will have a lasting positive effect on cricket in the Hunter.

« The Local Organizing Committee is excited to work with the New South Wales Government and Cricket NSW to ensure that hosting two ICC T20 World Championships in Australia has a sustained positive impact, » said Enright.

“We are delighted that the Legacy Fund has helped build new facilities in Wallsend, Stockton and Salamander Bay. These projects will continue to benefit Hunter’s cricket community in the future. ”
