Sydney [Australia], 8. December (ANI): There were worrying signs at the top again when India A’s batsmen failed to hold their own at the crease here at the Drummoyne Oval on Tuesday during the second innings of their three-day training game against Australia A. While the game ended in a draw, at one point it looked like the Australian A-unit would run away with a win. But it was Wriddhiman Saha who showed some fights and managed to keep the host bowlers at bay. While the team led by Ajinkya Rahane declared their second innings at 189/9 and Australia A set a target of 131 in about 15 overs, no batsman got going in the second innings and at one point the team was looking at the barrel at 143 / 9. But in the end, Saha managed to save some pride when he played an undefeated stroke of 54 runs. Australia A lost Joe Burns’ (0) wicket in the first round of innings and then tried to play off the remaining overs. In the end, the three-day game ended in a draw.

Earlier, on the third day at 286/8, Australia A added 20 more runs to its balance sheet and the hosts finally declared at 306/9 with a lead of 59 runs over the visitors. Cameron Green remained unbeaten on 125, while Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj scalped three wickets each for India. For India A, Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill again failed to get a big score behind their backs. Both opening batsmen were picked up by Green after 19 and 19 respectively. 29 blows released. Gill looked fine at the crease during his brief stint, hitting five boundaries, but his discharge left much to be desired for someone trying to make it onto the testing team. Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored a fight of 54 in the first innings, could not register a run in the second innings and was fired by Michael Neser for a duck. Hanuma Vihari then joined skipper Ajinkya Rahane and the duo brought back some innings for the visitors. The two made 54 runs for the fourth wicket, but as soon as India A calmed down, Michael Neser ensured Vihari’s breakthrough (28). . Shortly thereafter, Mark Steketee dismissed Rahane (28), Ravichandran Ashwin (8) and Kuldeep Yadav (0) and brought the visitors on their hind feet in 129/7, 70 runs before Australia A.. India A seemed cheap, but Saha and Kartik Tyagi managed to frustrate the hosts, with the former also producing his half-century. Both batsmen formed an unbeaten tenth wicket partnership of 46 runs, and India A declared at 189/9. Brief results: India 247 / 9d and 189 / 9d (Wriddhiman Saha 54 *, Shubman Gill 29; Mark Steketee 5-37); Australia A 306/9 (Cameron Green 125 *, Tim Paine 44; Umesh Yadav 3-48) and 52/1 (Marcus Harris 25 *, Will Pucovski 23; Umesh Yadav 1-14) (ANI)
