Telco Singtel Optus has fired the next shot in Australia’s ongoing 5G speed wars, claiming to have achieved a download speed of 25Gbps using a Samsung Galaxy S20 device on the first of its ultra 5G sites. fast

The company said in a statement that it has worked with Ericsson and Samsung, using medium-band spectrum and 5G carrier aggregation to achieve this speed at a live site in Sydney

A total of 150 such super-fast sites are planned in Sydney and Melbourne by the end of November on the telecommunications company’s existing 5G infrastructure

« As they are rolled out, these new super high speed sites will deliver a real speed boost to Optus customers with 5G handsets and a capable 5G SIM card, » said CEO of Optus, Networks, Lambo Kanagaratnam

He described speed as an essential part of 5G, but added that « not all speeds are created equal »

« Optus 5G super high speed sites are the next step in our ambition to provide Australians with a network that offers the fastest 5G This is not lab technology, this technology is available now and we have an ambitious rollout plan over the next few months to ensure that more of our Optus 5G Mobile customers benefit from these «  gigabit  » speeds «

Kanagaratnam said the company is also looking to provide its home internet customers with high speeds and plans to unlock 100 MHz mid-band spectrum to 3500 MHz for users in certain areas of Sydney and Melbourne.

The Optus 5G home internet service already offers average download speeds of 214 Mbps and it is claimed that this increase in spectral bandwidth of around 60% will result in even faster average speeds

« We rate our 5G home internet as the best in Australia and it’s already fast – in fact in recent weeks we’ve seen more and more customers enjoy download speeds of over 300Mbps and with a access to that 100 MHz mid-band spectrum that we expect to see those speeds climb even higher, ”Kanagaratnam said

« We are leading the 5G home internet market and having been available to customers for over a year, we understand the way our customers use this product and with multiple devices all streaming content simultaneously, we know that this speed increase is going to be welcomed «
