Alex Iwobi has explained how he tries to prove himself every time he gets the chance to play for Everton and Nigeria.

The 24-year-old teamed up with the Goodison Park team in the summer of 2019 and has had mixed fates since arriving.

The striker is arguably having his best time with the Toffees since joining from Arsenal after starting the club’s last six games and helping Carlo Ancelotti’s men to four wins and one draw.

Iwobi has also played in various positions for the Toffees in the current campaign, including the wing-back role where he shone.

The versatile striker is also a key member of the Nigerian national team and has helped the West African team finish third in the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Iwobi’s contribution also helped the Super Eagles get on pole position to qualify for the Afcon 2022 in Cameroon.

The versatile striker said he is always motivated to play for both the club and the country because he doesn’t want to disappoint his family members who have invested so much in him and his supporters.

“Every day I try to prove to myself that I should be here, that I should play for Everton, that I should be in the starting XI, that I should represent my country. « Said Iwobi of Everton’s game day schedule.

“I always have this motivation, especially because of what my family has been through, to get where I am. It makes me hungry to improve and I work every day to try to do that.

“I want to fight not just for myself, but for the hundreds of thousands of Evertonians and the people who follow and support me. I think I owe it to them to give 100 percent every day. «

Iwobi, who spent more than a decade at the Arsenal before joining the Toffees, believes the Goodison Park team under manager Ancelotti is as good as his former club.

“This team from Everton is absolutely as good as the Arsenal teams I’ve been on. We have talented international players on the team and on the bench, ”he continued.

“The chemistry in the locker room is great. We see the quality of the training every day … it has to come out consistently on the pitch and we all know we can improve and offer more. ”

In support of a recent protest against police brutality in Nigeria, in which a number of demonstrators were allegedly killed and injured, Iwobi wrote « End police brutality » in his black boot.

« It is terrible to see what is happening in Nigeria. It is so sad. People are protesting for their rights and are being killed, ”he added.

“I am in a position where I can influence a lot of people and I will always use my voice to speak about what is right.

“It is important that we use our platforms to make people aware of what is happening. I also feel like I have to let people know with my feet.

« I was able to get custom-made black boots so people all over the world could see that I am supporting the cause. ”

Iwobi is expected to be featured when Everton face Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday.
