Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford must learn lessons from the skills of teammate Edinson Cavani, according to Darren Bent and Red Devils, legend Andy Cole says the striker will have to score 20 goals this season if he is to score Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to inspire a title triumph in the Premier League. Rashford starts 2021 in good shape after scoring seven goals and seven assists in 15 Premier League games.
In all competitions, Rashford has scored 14 goals and eight assists in 24 games as he seeks to beat the 22-goal record in 44 games last season. There are also 12 templates.
Rashford’s 17-goal league goal was the 23-year-old’s best return to the Premier League despite having spent much of the season on the left wing.
The England international brought United to victory against Wolves with one final blow in the last game of last year and hopes to maintain the form he scored five top-division goals in December.
United have turned out to be an unlikely contender for Liverpool’s crown, but in order to win the league, Cole believes Rashford will have to break the 20-goal mark for the first time.
When asked if Rashford is at his peak now, ex-United and Newcastle striker Cole, who scored 121 goals in 275 games in Manchester, told Sky Sports’ Friday Night Football: « I think he has even more, I’m going to be brutally honest with you. I think he has more.
« As we all know, he’s a very, very talented player. Five goals in December speak volumes. But I really believe this kid can easily score 20-25 goals per season. He has the talent to do just that.
« If you look at some of his placements this season, they have been fantastic. He definitely has a lot more to do. «
While Bent said when asked where Rashford could improve, he has to look at how deadly Cavani is up close and what rooms he puts himself in.
Bent stated, « I think maybe in and around the six-yard box. We know that he can score spectacular goals, can get past people and has great technique.
« Maybe the scruffy goals [he has to score more goals of] in and around the six yard boxes when they’re jumping around and he’s the one typing them.
« When you say Cavanis [goal] against Southampton, those areas in and around the six-yard box, they’re freebies. That can add another five goals to his record. «
And Cole added, « I agree, I agree. If you talk about the six yard box, you can get 10 or 12 goals per season from tap-ins. If he adds these to his game, he’ll score up to 20 goals per season.
« If you are trying to score big at a club like Manchester United, one of your guys definitely has to score 20 goals this season. «
Cole also judged United’s title prospects, admitting he still sees top runners Liverpool as favorites to keep the title.
He said: « I think in the shape United are in now everyone should look forward to the New Year very happily.
« The form has really improved. When Ole talks about the mentality, the players have gained a hell of a lot of confidence in the results they got.
« I’m sitting here still thinking it could possibly be like that [a title winning season]. I don’t know, I think any team that ends above Liverpool has a chance to win the league.
« You have to win more football games, United, it’s that simple. Obviously, to get to the next level, you also need to involve players.
