Southern Cross Austereo has announced changes to its breakfast range at 101. 9 Fox FM in Melbourne, with Nick Cody on the show from 2021.

Cody has spent the past two years at SCA in Brisbane co-hosting the Triple M Breakfast, and his move to Melbourne signals the departure of long-time Fox anchor and co-host Byron Cooke.

Stand-up comedian Cody will be on the show with Fifi Box and Brendan Fevola next year, and the former said he looks forward to returning to his hometown of Victoria.

« I’m so excited to join Fifi and Fevola in 2021! Fifi is an absolute legend and to be honest there is only one guy who can rival one of the best strikers of all time and that’s me – the third best and fairest Werribee Under 12 from 1999 ”, he said.

« It’s crazy they allowed a kid from Hoppers Crossing to be on the breakfast show on the country’s biggest radio station. 2020 has been a hectic year for Melburnians but we are on our way back to the life we love. ”

Cody’s inclusion on the show comes after a poor 2020 result on the GfK Radio Ratings compared to the high standards Fifi, Fev and Byron have set over the years.

As recently as 2019, the show was rated double digits and was the number 1 FM breakfast show on the market, a position it has occupied several times in recent years.

In the seventh survey this year, the second book after the ratings blackout, Fifi, Fev and Byron had fallen to 5%.

« I’m a huge Nick fan. He’s such an exciting, funny comedian who sets the comedy world on fire and I know we’re going to have so much fun in the studio. He also has a very impressive beard, ”said Box.

« I thought I was the funny one, but I hate to admit it. The Fox found someone even funnier than me. Can’t wait for Nick to start in 2021, he’s unreal! « Added Fevola.

Cooke had anchored the show since 2016, and his name was first included in the title a year later.

In a statement, SCA said Cooke will be leaving to « pursue other projects that he is passionate about ». His last show will take place this Friday the 27th. November, instead.

Fox’s content director Amanda Lee said the cast change is aimed at bringing Melbourne back to life after a difficult 2020.

“2020 was the most extraordinary year. Most of our shows were broadcast from home and I couldn’t be more proud of them. Our team and our audience have shown us that there is nothing like Melbourne and we just love putting on a show for the people who live here, ”she said.

“In 2021 we will focus on nothing but fun and be part of bringing our city back to life. There won’t be a place like The Fox in 2021 and we’re excited to have Nick join us for the celebration.

“Fifi, Fev and Nick have a good chemistry, were born and raised in Melbourne, and ready to put their arms around the city and the people they love. ”

Cody’s move also leaves the breakfast roster for Triple M Brisbane in the air, while SCA has yet to announce the roster for the Triple M Melbourne breakfast following the departure of Eddie McGuire and the newly introduced Triple M Perth.

This recent talent shift also means that SCA will have at least five new breakfast shows in the Subway markets in 2020, including the recently announced 2Day FM breakfast show starring Hughesy, Ed and Erin.

Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes and Ed Kavalee will be moving off National Drive for breakfast in Sydney next year. SCA this week is announcing the one hour extension of Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little’s early drive show, rather than bringing in a new show to replace Hughesy and Ed.
