PARIS, FRANCE –
Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris will reverberate with songs on Christmas Eve as it holds its first choral concert since the massive fire that nearly destroyed the Gothic masterpiece last year.
An organ is rented for this occasion, as the majestic pipe organ of Notre-Dame after the devastating fire on 15. April 2019 will be carefully dismantled for cleaning and restoration.
Since then, the landmark of the 13th. Century held only two events – a small mass, which was celebrated in June 2019, and a prayer ceremony last April on the occasion of Good Friday.
Michel Aupetit, the Archbishop of Paris, said Monday that two soloists will lead the choir and the concert will be broadcast on the radio.
Restoration reached a milestone last week when the last pieces of metal scaffolding on the roof were removed, which in the fire melted into a tangle and threatened to fall to the ground.
In this way, important stabilization and protection work can be carried out before the destroyed roof and tower are rebuilt.
Officials are working towards President Emmanuel Macron’s goal of having the cathedral restored within five years.
