Ryan stated on Wednesday that the 37-year-old NRL star will likely hang up the boots during the off-season despite suspicions that he might play for a competing NRL team like the Gold Coast Titans.
He said Smith was moving to Queensland and at least finished playing in the storm.
« Cameron didn’t come out and said to us. I think he’s keeping the meeting in check, ”Ryan said on SEN Track on Wednesday.

« He had many offers to be with us as a consultant. I’m sure the (Brisbane) Broncos would love to see him back.
« He will live in Queensland. So what options are there up there? AFL clubs will hunt him down for leadership roles.
« The great man, I think he realized it was time to hang up and what a great career. ”
When asked if Smith played his last game with the Storm, Ryan said, « Not that I have a little bet every now and then, I would put some money on it. ”

It comes after Storm chairman Matt Tripp planned to travel to Queensland to meet with Smith to discuss his future and a possible role with the Storm if he chooses to retire.
« I didn’t have a chance to talk to him about it. But if he played for the Melbourne Storm next year, I think I would know.
« That’s not to say he won’t be playing anywhere else. I really don’t know the answer to that. « .
« Hopefully we can focus on a few details and find out what the next year is like because I would love him to stay at the club.

« If he backflips and says no, I want to play again. I have to get creative and find a way to make this happen.
