Queensland will relax its border restrictions with South Australia in time for Christmas, authorities have announced.
Subject to no incidents of community broadcast in the next five days, people on Dec.. Travel from Adelaide to Queensland on December 1st at 1am.
South Australia has now had nine straight days of no new COVID-19 cases after the northern suburbs cluster that triggered the border closure.
Dr. Queensland chief health officer Kerry Chant admitted that prior to Jan.. December « things could change » but authorities were confident the border would open.
« There were large numbers of people in quarantine [in Adelaide] regarding this cluster, » she said.
Western Australia is set to ease its border restrictions with South Australia at midnight on Thursday. Travelers entering WA must be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival.
Tasmania and the Northern Territory reopened their borders with South Australia last week, and Victoria kept its permit system for the time being.
The border news comes as Federal Health Secretary Greg Hunt keeps an eye on the UK’s launch of vaccines and Australia tries to make a decision on launching by the end of January.
Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer’s vaccine, which the UK launches this week, is expected to be available in March.
« We have specially designed a number of vaccines and all the different data, whether it comes from clinical trials or what is going to happen in the UK, will be of immense value to Australia, » said Hunt.
« We will look to see if any lessons are learned from the rollout, if there are any lessons or information related to safety or effectiveness. ”
