American sport was shaken by the tragic death of college star Ty Jordan, who died in a devastating accident at age 19.

Texas-born Jordan was killed in what was known as an « accidental shooting » after his gun was reportedly unexpectedly fired.

« After preliminary investigation, we believe this was an accidental shootout in which the victim accidentally shot himself, » a Denton Police Department spokesman told ESPN.

Jordan was named Pac-12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year just this week and was also a selection from all the second-team conferences.

The school in Utah, running back, confirmed the terrible news of the teen’s death in a statement from team coach Kyle Whittingham.

« Words cannot express the devastation and grief our team is experiencing as they learn of the tragic death of our teammate and brother Ty Jordan, » said Utah manager Whittingham.

« Ty’s personality and smile were infectious, and he made a huge impact on our program in the short amount of time he was with us.

« He makes an indelible mark on each of us, and our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.
