Qatar Airways Cargo started the year with the delivery of three Boeing B777 freighters as the industry prepares for another year with tight capacities.
Qatar Airways Cargo now operates 24 of these aircraft models – two more have been ordered – as well as two B747-8F to further expand overall cargo capacity.
Delivery is at the start of global Covid-19 vaccination programs, which should put additional pressure on an already tight market due to the loss of much of the world’s abdominal strength capacity.
Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, said: “With the arrival of these new freighters, we are adding more capacity to the market that is badly needed during the pandemic.
« The additional capacity will also enable us to support the logistics around the Covid-19 vaccination, which is expected to be one of the greatest logistical challenges for the industry.
“With our investments in innovation and the fleet, we can meet the logistical requirements of our customers and promote the continuity of global trade. ”
The airline has rapidly expanded its freighter fleet in recent years to become the world’s largest international air freight company. That goal was met in 2019 – although it still lags FedEx when considering the domestic volume.
