World News – AU – Raiders freshman Tom Starling faces charges after allegedly attacking police

Aspiring Raiders star Tom Starling has been charged after allegedly attacking police during a Central Coast brawl.

Police were called to Shady Palms Bar Restaurant Kincumber by the venue security after a user refused to leave the restaurant. Upon arrival, the police were informed that the user had left and instead conducted a shop inspection.

During the stay, officers assisted security, who was involved in an argument with another user who allegedly had not left the premises when asked. The 19-year-old man was arrested.

While escorting the man from the venue, police alleged three other men – Starling and two men aged 20 and 24 – had become aggressive and attacked the police.

All four men were arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station after the Riot Squad visited the premises.

A male police officer suffered a cut on the hand and was examined by paramedics on site. No other officers were injured.

Starling has been charged with five attacks on an officer while he is on duty, as well as fraud and resistance to arrest.

« The Canberra Raiders have reported an alleged incident involving Tom Starling to the Integrity Unit, » an NRL spokesman said.

The 19-year-old man concerned was accused of not leaving the premises when necessary.

The 20-year-old man was taken to Gosford Hospital for treatment for a cut wound on his arm. He was released and charged with three charges of assault in the performance of his service, the affair and resisting the arrest.

« The club has notified the NRL integrity unit, » said a statement. « The association will not make any further comments. «
