SYDNEY (Reuters) – Australia’s bid for the 2027 Rugby World Cup received a boost on Saturday with an additional A $ 8million (£ 481million) in federal government funding as part of its broader efforts for post-coronavirus economic recovery
Hosting the tournament is expected to generate A $ 2 billion in direct and indirect spending, attract more than 200,000 international visitors for six weeks and create 12,000 jobs, Rugby Australia said in a statement
« I would like to thank Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the Australian government for supporting Australia’s bid to host the 2027 Rugby World Cup, » Rugby Australia President Hamish McLennan said in a statement
« This is a unique opportunity for our country and we have already made significant progress in laying the groundwork for a successful candidacy »
