The Mandalorian has thrown a lot of lore to fans in its second season, connecting the different parts of the entire Star Wars canon with impressive ease. This week’s episode was definitely no exception. She discussed some of the characters from the series’ first season while also bringing the most prominent return to date of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). . The return of Moff Gideon would have been enough to wow fans, but when combined with the details of the episode itself – and the clothes Gideon wore – it got even more epic. Spoilers for Chapter 12 of The Mandalorian, « The Seige », below! Just look if you want to know!
As a result, Din Djarin / The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) met Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Mythhrol (Horatio Sanz) while they were waiting for repairs to the razor comb in Navarro. Through a series of events, Greef convinces Mando to help them on an expedition to blow up a seemingly empty Imperial base and free Navarro from the grip of the Empire. In doing so, they discover that the base is actually operational and that Moff Gideon has used it to conduct experiments with Midichlorians and to create new force-sensitive beings.
Unknown to Mando, one of the technicians who repaired the razor comb was actually an Imperial spy and connected a tracking device to the ship. An officer then reported this back to Moff Gideon, who was wearing quite impressive armor. While Gideon was surrounded by a horde of dark soldiers, he was shown Darth Vader-like armor with an ornate breastplate and cloak.
Gideon’s costume makes a subtle contribution to building the world in relation to The Mandalorian, not only showing what a non-Vader member of the Empire would look like in the attire of that era, but it also proves he’s a pretty formidable force in evil is the organization’s post-endor history. Given that the episode also seemed to kickstart the dawn of the First Order, the Empire’s development that flourished in the sequel to the trilogy, that fact just keeps getting creepier.
