Tasmanian Labor has welcomed the long overdue recognition for Teddy Sheean that will come when he is posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross today.
Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs Jo Siejka said today’s ceremony at the Government House is a great opportunity, not just for those who applied for the award, but for all Tasmanians.
« I am so proud that Teddy Sheean’s courage and sacrifice are finally recognized with such a prestigious honor, » said Ms. Siejka.
“A lot of people have worked towards this moment, and I want to thank them for all of their efforts in helping Teddy get the recognition he so deserves.
« I would like to expressly thank Teddy’s nephew, Garry Ivory, for the work he has done to see Teddy honored in this way.
« Teddy is a hero to all Tasmanians and his actions are now forever recognized with Australia’s highest military honor. ”
