World News – AU – The secret of Proxima Centauri continues as scientists discover unexplained radio signals from distant stars

These signals were discovered by researchers from Breakthrough Listen, the largest scientific research program ever aimed at finding evidence of civilizations beyond Earth

Proxima Centauri is the closest star system to the solar system and is only 4. 2 light years from Earth. Since its discovery in 1915 by Scottish astronomer Robert Innes, Proxima Centauri has puzzled space scientists, particularly due to its low rate of energy production.

And now researchers looking for life outside the Earth have discovered unexplained radio signals coming from the direction of this star.

Interestingly, Proxima Centauri orbits two planets, one of which is said to be rocky like Earth. This mysterious signal was discovered by researchers from Breakthrough Listen, widely recognized as the greatest scientific research program of all time, aimed at finding evidence of civilizations beyond Earth.

Scientists have now named this signal « BLC-1 » and it was recorded during observations between April and May 2019.

« You’re pretty much expected to see something strange every now and then, but that’s interesting because it’s something weird to think about next steps, » said Sofia Sheikh, a graduate student at Pennsylvania State University and a member of the Breakthrough List team.

Since scientists have discovered signals coming from the direction of Proxima Centauri, several people believe that these waves could be the result of extraterrestrial activity. However, Sheikh believes that these signals are most likely of human origin.

According to researchers, these supposed alien waves appear to be very similar to the transmissions humans use to communicate. The researchers believe that BLC-1 could be emitting from an object, which could be an airplane moving overhead, a transmitter on the ground near the telescope’s line of sight, or a faulty electronic device inside a nearby building.

« Only human technology seems to generate such signals. Our WiFi, our cell towers, our GPS, our satellite radio – all of these look just like the signals we’re looking for, which makes it very difficult to tell if something came from space or man-made technology, « he added sheikh.
