(Reuters) – Britain’s Yamaha factory team announced Friday that Britain’s Cal Crutchlow is a test rider for the 2021 motorbike season..
Crutchlow, 35, will leave LCR Honda at the end of the season after being left out of the squad for Alex Marquez.
The three-time MotoGP winner has also been linked with a move to Aprilia but decided to join Yamaha, replacing three-time MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo in the test role.
Crutchlow also confirmed his readiness to pick next season as a surrogate rider in case a Yamaha’s MotoGP rider has to miss the race due to illness or injury..
After starring at the Superbike Motorcycle World Championships, Crutchlow began his MotoGP career with Yamaha’s Tech3 Team in 2011 before moving to Ducati in 2014.
Starting with the MotoGP Distance Test scheduled in Sepang, Malaysia on February 14-16, Crutchlow will lead Yamaha’s YZR-M1.
