World news – Australia – $ 250,000 reward for information on the disappearance of gay man Simon Knight

Simon Knight was a 32-year-old gay Sydney man when he was last seen at a hotel on Crown Street, Surrey Hills, on the morning of July 21, 2005. The chef (pictured) failed to get to work at a Newtown Cafe later that day. Police were notified that he was missing, but despite investigations at that time

Gay Sydney Man Simon Knight was 32 years old when he was last seen at a hotel on Crown Street, Surry Hills, on the morning of July 21, 2005

The chef (pictured) failed to get to work at Newtown Cafe later that day and police were notified that he was missing but despite investigations at the time and since then, the gay man was never found.

A medical investigation conducted in 2008 found it unlikely that Knight was dead but had not been seen since. Police have not identified the man’s body.

Police and the NSW government subsequently announced a reward of $ 100,000 for information and last week the government increased that bonus to $ 250,000.

The Southern Sydney Police District Chief, Andrew Holland, appealed for any information from the community that could provide answers about the man’s disappearance.

“We think there are people in the community who have vital information about Mr. Knight’s movements the day he was last seen, and possibly his whereabouts,” said Sobt Holland

“At this time, we are keen to talk to anyone who has lived or frequented the streets of Crown and Oxford, Surrey Hills, in July 2005, especially if they knew Simon and hadn’t yet spoken to the police

“Please put your mind back and try to remember if you’ve ever seen this guy in the area

“Even a small piece of information about Simon’s movements can make all the difference to this investigation”

At the time of his disappearance, the police described Simon as being 183 cm tall, with blue eyes, light skin, red hair, and hair on his face.

Investigators believe the man was wearing a dark green shirt and blue jeans when he was last seen

Supt Holland said Knight had not activated any of his finances after his disappearance, and that was worrisome

Sadly, Simon’s parents, Robyn Cunlan and Bob Knight, no longer believe their son is alive yet they hope the new information will allow them to know what happened

“Our son has been missing for more than 15 years.” His father, sister, brother and I need to know what happened to him.

“I don’t want to die and I don’t know what really happened to him [it is] the worst thing a parent could go through”

Robin said the entire family is « very grateful » for the police’s years of work on the case and the new reward

NSW Police Minister David Elliott also hopes to pay someone a $ 250,000 bounty for providing essential information

“No parent should live with the pain of not knowing if their child is safe, where they are, or the harm they may have suffered,” he said

“I urge you to contact the police if you have any information, however unimportant, that can help resolve Mr. Knight’s disappearance”

Anyone with information about Simon Knight’s disappearance should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000 Information is top secret
