Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has signed up for the inaugural edition of English Cricket’s Hundred – a big coup for the new 100-ball-per-side competition.
Perry, recently named Women’s Player of the Decade on the International Cricket Council, has agreed to join the Birmingham Phoenix.
The 30-year-old, who is currently at the top of the one-day international all-rounder rankings, will join a Phoenix team that includes New Zealander Sophie Devine, who is at the top of the relevant T20 leaderboard.
Perry is keen to play in The Hundred, which has eight franchises, all with male and female teams.
« Cant wait to see to come to the UK and get involved with The Hundred this summer, « she said on Thursday.
» It’s fantastic to see how it has put women’s cricket in the spotlight and so many of the world’s best games he’s attracted to play in it. «
» With 100 balls per side, it will be really exciting to play in and I look forward to introducing a new generation to cricket and hopefully inspiring them to do it themselves take a bat and ball. «
Phoenix manager Ben Sawyer said, » Ellyse is a world class cricketer who would make any team better and we are excited to see her join us in Birmingham Phoenix this summer . «
