All employees and patients at Saanich Peninsula Hospital will be tested after one employee and five patients become infected with the virus.
According to Island Health, there is evidence of transmission in acute care areas. Improved cleaning and contact tracking is ongoing.
Additionally, a patient and an employee at the West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni tested positive for COVID-19.
This outbreak is limited to one unit and protocols have been put in place, according to Island Health. The hospital and the emergency department will remain open.
