Like many of you who clicked on this post I was a huuuuuuge fan of Dawson’s Creek growing up I saw him a few times as an adult and spent way too much hours watching the Joey Pacey highlights on YouTube But it’s been a few years, so naturally when I heard that the series was coming to Netflix, I decided it was time to revisit Capeside one more time. times Here are all the thoughts I had while watching the very first episode
1 The opening gives me butterflies again, as it goes from the cove to Dawson’s house, with those pan flutes (?) Playing
4 When I was a teenager watching this all I wanted was a best friend that I could share a bed with and maybe kiss with Only not one as terrible as Dawson Leery
6 « The man / woman thing is going to get in the way » They really set up the whole premise of the show in this one scene
11 Love that the intro to Pacey’s character was him dressed as a sea monster, dragging Joey through the water, then the two bicker How was it not clear they were late in the game from the beginning
12 Jen stepping out of that yellow cab in this sundress with « Hey Pretty Girl » playing is ICONIC
14 « You think she’s a virgin, do you want to nail her? » I forgot how extremely horny Pacey was at first
17 Dawson and Pacey working in a video store – with a poster I Know What You Did Last Summer – adds new layers of nostalgia that I’m not quite ready to deal with
18 « You’re steamy Ffff Fffff » I thought it was the height of clever insults when I was younger
19 Oh my god oh no oh no here is Tamara This plot is a mess
21 Ahhhhhh this song * adds Sophie B Hawkins’ As I Lay Me Down to every playlist *
22 « Would you like to see my studio? » Wow Dawson, this is an easy way to get Jen into your room
24 It’s probably funnier to me than it should be that Dawson’s odd obsession with his mother cheating on her co-host turns out to be true
25 Looool @ Grams says Dawson Leery – DAWSON LEERY – is a « problem » I mean, he is, but not as she sees fit
26 Grams and Jen’s relationship and the way she changes and grows is actually one of the most interesting parts of the whole series

30 Jen is trying so hard to befriend Joey Joey does NOT deserve it at this point
31 I’m ashamed to say I was totally Team Joey and hated Jen the first time I watched this I was young and didn’t know any better
33 « Going Home Walking Your Dog » I remember my mom asking me what « walking your dog » meant and I wanted to die
35 Bless Jen Lindley knowing her own mind and setting boundaries with her grandma in a respectful way And also trying to get her to say the word « penis »
37 « Now erase them together like that » I thought about this scene, with Bessie putting lipstick on Joey, every time I’ve worn dark red lipstick since I was 12.
39 I love how the main four are all in complementary shades of beige and blue for this walk-in movie date
40 Joey is so mean to Jen that I can’t believe I was ever on his side in this fight against Dawson which shouldn’t even happen because he’s scary Dawson
