On Friday the LPGA announced that the golfer Cristie Kerr was injured. There was more news on Saturday about how severe the injury was and how it resulted from an early morning golf cart accident on Friday that left her and caddy Matt Gelczis in the emergency room for several hours. Here’s more on that from Beth Ann Nichols at Golfweek:
Cristie Kerr retired from the Volunteers of America Classic on Friday after an accident with a golf cart early in the morning before the game.
Kerr’s husband Erik Stevens confirmed that the accident at the Old American Golf Club occurred in dark conditions, and both Kerr and her caddy Matt Gelczis spent several hours in the emergency room with several serious injuries before being released late at night were afternoon.
Gelczis was out in Rancho Mirage, California earlier this year for ANA Inspiration winner Mirim Lee. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
That’s quite a blow to Kerr (see above at the 2020 PGA Women’s Championship in October), who shot a 72nd-minute in the first round of the tournament on Thursday. And those injuries could potentially have an impact when she can play at the U next week. S.. . Women’s Open in Houston. There is still no word on their status for this tournament.
Kerr, 43, has won 20 times on the LPGA Tour, including the 2007 U.. S.. . Women’s Open and the 2010 PGA Women’s Championship. She worked on the Golf Channel broadcast last year and this year as well. We wish her all the best as she recovers.
