CBS ‘Blue Bloods opened the 11. Season with some salient reflections on police brutality, serial killer fears for Danny and Baez, and the hint that a Reagan can make a big difference in life. We also have our third new guest for family dinners in four seasons!

As the premiere played out, there was a feeling that Blue Bloods – which is about the NYPD police commissioner and his family – may be the only TV show we wanted or needed to hear about on the subject of police brutality and rioting. It came in the form of Frank locking horns with city council spokeswoman Regina Thomas (returning guest star Whoopi Goldberg) who broke into NYPD on a morning radio show. Later, when Frank and Regina became confused in the communist’s office, they came down one impasse after another, and each side urged the other to “de-escalate. « She asks Frank’s cops to retire, but he claims they are being paid to stand up. (But for everyone? Asks Regina. ) When Regina claims that there are « criminals in the ranks » of the NYPD, Frank blurts out: « You have to get your head out of your ass, » for which he quickly apologizes.

Things are not much better between the two when Frank later shows up in Regina’s office. Since the mayor has clearly distanced himself from the police lately and Frank has been annoyed about how he is supposed to serve the people and his officers without betraying both sides, it is up to Gormley to write a resignation letter with a pithy “P. . S.. . , “That Frank is apparently considering sending to the mayor.

* While Danny and Baez knocked on the door for information about a woman who was suffocated, they were locked in the basement of a brownstone belonging to an alleged serial killer. Baez was pushed down the stairs to destroy their plight and was in great pain while Danny unsuccessfully sought a way out. At one point, Baez shared how, when she lived in Alphabet City, « with a muscle head » no one showed up the day she was promoted to detective. Meanwhile, Danny – as one of those Reagans for whom happiness never seems to end – takes for granted the family ties he has, including Erin, Baez points out.

Although Danny doesn’t get Jamie and Joe’s attention the first time they knock on the brownstone where the serial killer son was pumping loud music, the sergeant and detective eventually find Danny and Baez if they suspect they’re im Playing bad inside. Afterwards, Joe, who still seems to find his place in his newfound family, declines an invitation to dinner on Sunday, but there is still a special guest this week when Danny brings a really lovable Baez to eat bread with him to break brood.

* In a story reminiscent of NCIS: New Orleans’ Own Season Opener, Eddie helped a young woman, Anita, find the body of her father, who had died and been relocated during the first major wave of COVID deaths. Eddie finally leads Anita to the Potter field on Hart’s Island, where the latter recites a prayer that her father said in front of her at every basketball game. When Anita cries at the grave of the father she last fought with, she nudges Eddie to opt for her own father’s forthcoming « compassionate release » hearing.
