World News – CA – COVID-19 outbreaks on Saanich Peninsula at Port Alberni Hospitals

A COVID-19 outbreak was reported Tuesday at Saanich Peninsula Hospital after a staff member and five patients tested positive.

Island Health claims to have taken precautionary measures, including improved cleaning and contact tracing. All staff and approved patients are tested. Families of patients who test positive for COVID-19 will be contacted.

While the emergency room remains open and ambulatory services, including the laboratory and medical imaging, continue, visitor numbers are limited.

Another new outbreak has been reported at the West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni following evidence of transmission in the medico-surgical B-wing.

Island Health announced the Discovery Harbor outbreak in November. 19 after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. No other cases in residents or employees were identified through follow-up tests.
