Andre Russell has finally connected and has sent the ball to the boundary twice. But Kolkata needs 96 in 30 deliveries and it’s a huge ask. Kolkata 100/4 after 15 overs.

Finally a pressure release shot from Morgan as he dispatches Pattinson over the cow corner but Kolkata needs more. Kolkata 90/4 after 14 overs.

50-up for Kolkata: Dinesh Karthik is playing some exquisite shots and the inside-out shot over extra cover was a hallmark of his batting so far. Meanwhile, Nitish Rana is slowly but surely getting into the act. Kolkata 54/2 after 8 overs.

Alright Kolkata openers Shubman Gill and Sunil Narine are out there in the middle and it will be Trent Boult with the ball.

End of Innings: Excellent bowling from Shivam Mavi as he chocked the big-hitting Kieron Pollard but Kolkata’s fielding cost the side at least a couple of extra runs, which might be crucial if the chase goes down the wire. Mumbai rode on Rohit’s 54-ball 80 and Suryakumar Yadav played his part with a 28-ball 47, not to forget Saurabh Tiwary’s 13-ball 21. Well Mumbai has got 195 on the board and a good start by Kolkata can spice this run chase. We will be back shortly. Mumbai 195/5 after 20 overs.

Hit-wicket: Oh dear! Hardik Pandya has chopped his bat on the stumps! What a bonus wicket for Kolkata and no one had a clue of what had happened. Pandya, deep in his crease brought his bat down in such a way that it disturbed the off-bail. Mumbai 182/5 after 19 overs.

Saurabh Tiwary gets into the act as he creams Cummins for a boundary and then for a maximum over long-on. Mumbai all set for a late assault. Mumbai 147/2 after 15 overs.

200th IPL Six: And who better than Rohit Sharma! He is in such good form and middling the ball perfectly, much to the delight of Mumbai. The MI skipper first smoked Kuldeep with a fierce pull over deep mid-wicket and then hit the 200th IPL six with an excellent shot over long-on. Mumbai 132/2 after 14 overs.

Kolkata need to change its plan of bowling short to Rohit as he has been very comfortable and this time he slaps Warrier over extra cover for a boundary. 10 from the over and with a well-set Rohit in, Mumbai will aim to accelerate. Mumbai 115/2 after 13 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav started off well but Suryakumar Yadav skips down the track and plays a brilliant inside out shot and the ball sailed over the extra cover region. Jeez! That was a top shot. Mumbai 83/1 after 8 overs.

Rohit Sharma is racing for something very special. He welcomes Andre Russell into the attack with a pull over deep mid-wicket and then nailed a short one over the deep square leg for a maximum. Mumbai 72/1 after 7 overs.

50-run stand Both Suryakumar and Rohit have taken a liking for the deep mid-wicket region as Surya welcomes Sunil Narine with two exquisite boundaries and the 50-run stand is up for the second wicket. Kolkata needs to stop this partnership. Else it will be chasing leather. Mumbai 59/1 after 6 overs.

Rohit Sharma is in his zone today and there is no stopping…The Hitman first smacked Pat Cummins over the deep mid-wicket region and then follows it up with another massive one in the penultimate delivery of the over. 15 comes off Cummins over. Mumbai 48/1 after 5 overs.

Rohit and Suryakumar have started picking the gaps but Mavi is bowling a good line. Mumbai 33/1 after 4 overs.

Hat-trick of Boundaries: Suryakumar Yadav at his very best and he gets going. A clip through square-leg and then a sublime cover drive followed by a risky flick over mid-wicket and Mumbai picket 16 runs from Warrier’s over. Mumbai 24/1 after 3 overs.

Wicket-Maiden: Great start from Shivam Mavi as he gets the breakthrough with the wicket of Quinton de Kock and then tests Suryakumar with some quality bowling. There is a hint of movement and he is exploiting the conditions. Good start. Mumbai 8/1 after 2 overs.

WICKET – Mavi strikes in his very first over and what a start for KKR. Digs in short, de Kock goes for the pull, gets a top-edge and Nikhil Naik settles under the skier at mid-wicket.

Mumbai is away as after a very good start, Rohit Sharma opens his arms smacks Sandeep Warrier over deep point for a six. Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock is also off the mark. Mumbai 8/0 after 1 over.

The players are out there in the middle and it will be Rohit Sharma along with Quinton de Kock for Mumbai. With the ball, it will be Sandeep Warrier. Here we go!

Kieron Pollard is set to make his 150th IPL appearance for Mumbai Indians tonight. He was presented with a special jersey ahead of the clash.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik (WK/C), Nikhil Naik, Pat Cummins, Kuldeep Yadav, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma(c), Quinton de Kock(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, James Pattinson, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Dinesh Karthik: We will bowl first. We saw the first game, there was some dew, so we want to make use of it. Really proud to start the tournament today. We got Morgan, Cummins, Russell and Narine. I think they’re really looking forward to this. We are looking forward to the young guys.

Rohit: What happened in the past it’s past. There are some areas where we need to rectify. Hopefully we don’t make those mistakes. We are playing with the same XI. Having someone like Pollard in the squad is always nice. He is a massive player for us, hopefully he’ll come out and enjoy his game, like he always goes. Malinga like Pollard, has been a massive player for us. It was unfortunate that he couldn’t make it due to personal reasons. That gives an opportunity to others. We need to enjoy our cricket as a squad.

Pitch Report: JP Duminy and Deep Dasgupta reckon that there is a bit of grass on the surface but it is dry and hard. The experts feel, wind will play a big factor in Abu Dhabi and that the wind will help hit towards the pavilion, but that is the longer boundary. However, the wind will help the bowler when the batsmen try hitiing towards the shorter boundary.

Clash of IPL heavyweights and Mumbai Indians will be eager to turn things around after its loss against Chennai Super Kings, while Kolkata will aim to start things on a clean slate. Stay tuned as we bring the Toss, Playing XI and all the match details in a while.

One of the most one-sided rivalries in IPL history will be revived when Mumbai Indians (MI) takes on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Mumbai, which lost its IPL 2020 season opener to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets on Saturday, has a massive 76% win rate over Kolkata from 25 outings between the two sides.

However, MI hasn’t won a single game in the UAE in six attempts. The franchise had lost to KKR by 41 runs in the 2014 IPL’s first match at the same venue in Abu Dhabi.

During Saturday’s clash at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, the pacers, with a combined economy rate of 8.1, were a bit more successful than the spinners, who had an overall economy of 8.5.

After finishing in playoff spots from 2016 to 2018, KKR failed to make the last-four stage on net run-rate in the previous edition.

MI and KKR have faced each other 25 times in the previous editions and the Mumbai side clearly rules the roost. It has won 19 of those fixtures, while KKR has only won six.

The story is no different in the recent past. MI has bagged victory in four of its past five matches against KKR.
